Skelmersdale Rapidplay 2009

This event takes place on Sunday 10th May. There are 4 sections including an Open.  Enter online or download a leaflet with an entry form included.


British Championships 2009, Torquay

 

The 96th Championships will be held from, 26th July - 8th August 2009 at the ultra-modern English Riviera Centre, Torquay.

 

Located just off the seafront, the Riviera Centre is a purpose built conference and exhibition venue enjoying a wide range of accommodation within walking distance. If you plan to play there this year you are strongly recommended to book early.

33rd Blackpool Chess Conference 2009

Well it's not really a conference but it is probably the biggest weekender in England. The traditional Winter Gardens venue has given way to a new one at Blackpool Football Club, Seasiders Way, Blackpool, FY1 6JJ (Telephone 01253 685021). This year's event will take place over the weekend of 13th-15th March.

 

The venue is located with easy access from the motorway and public transport, with ample parking and will be using the Sponsors Lounge, Directors Box and Boardroom for play with other rooms in the building as well.  There is a separate bar area and refreshments will be available inside the playing area. 4th EU Individual Championships at the World Museum 9th – 18th September.

Michael Adams and Nigel Short have confirmed their entries together with GM's Stewart Haslinger, Nigel Davies, the newly crowned European Champion Sergei Tiviakov and many more.

 

 

Further announcements about other very strong GM's will be made in the near future. Other information about the event can be found on the official site.


Glorney and Faber Cups

Liverpool John Moores University IM Marsh campus is hosting this prestigious and famous tournament from July 22nd–25th 2008.

 

In 1948 a Dublin businessman created the Glorney Cup (for boys) and it was joined twenty years later by the Faber Cup (for girls). The Cups were last played for in Liverpool in 2005. More information about last year's competition is on the ECF site. Data about both cups is well documented on the Olimpbase website and the Irish Union website has photos and match results from last year's event (won by England) in Dublin.


British Championships 2008

The 95th British Chess Championships will take place in St George’s Hall, Liverpool Sunday 27th July - Saturday 9th August. The various events which will attract hundreds of entries, the showpiece being the British Championship.

 

The ECF are now making funds available to attract leading players. This should ensure that the main event will be worthy of the magnificent St. George’s Hall.
